I approach family counseling concerns from a "Family Systems" perspective. This point of view states that when a family is going through challenging times "Everyone is responsible but no one is to blame". Life together has gotten out of balance and everyone in the family will be asked to do their part to nurture family harmony.
In addition to offering "No Blame" strategies for crisis intervention and routine problem solving, I also teach client families a process called "How to Have a Family Meeting". In a proactive manner, the family meeting process cultivates mutual appreciation, provides a context for resolving difficult issues, helps to clarify "who is responsible for what", and supports the development of family routines and plans that are agreeable and satisfying to all members of the family.
